Prior to the implementation of Lean in the ED, the percentage of patients that left prior to a medical examination was at 20.4% with total visits equaling 2,733.

Within 9 months of incorporating Lean principles and methodologies, the percentage of patients that left prior to a medical examination dropped by 66% allowing more patients into the hospital; increasing hospital volume by 9.9% and reducing operating costs by over $630K.

In addition to the ED increasing the amount of patients seen by medical staff, which in turn decreased the number of patients that left prior to a medical examination, it also increased employee and physician satisfactio dores.
