Within 12 months of incorporating Lean principles and methodologies, the average registration time improved over 69% allowing more patients into the hospital; increasing hospital volume by 28% and reducing operating costs by $65K.

Pharmacy

Before Lean was implemented in the Pharmacy, it took Pharmacists on average 33.24 minutes from the time the order was received to the time the order was physically delivered to the floor or the TAT (Turn-Around-Time). In addition, the pharmacy dispensed 281,600 doses with 37 errors.

ED LPME

Prior to the implementation of Lean in the ED, the percentage of patients that left prior to a medical examination was at 20.4% with total visits equaling 2,733.

Within 9 months of incorporating Lean principles and methodologies, the percentage of patients that left prior to a medical examination dropped by 66% allowing more patients into the hospital; increasing hospital volume by 9.9% and reducing operating costs by over $630K.

Clinic Visits

Before the implementation of Lean in all 27 clinics, the volume peaked at approximately 12,378 patients per month due to the lengthy front end and back end process. The front end portion of the process was from scheduling to exam and the back end portion was from exam to when the patient leaves. Prior to lean implementation, the front end process took an average of 91.5 minutes and the back end 39 minutes.
